1 – SUMMARY
E-learning course “Advanced RF Transceivers for 5G base stations based on GaN Technology” is an on-line course created on platform Moodle. The aim of this course is to present basic info about RF transceivers for 5G base stations problematics and the approach proposed by consortium of 5G_GaN2 project for 5G networks solution. The course is divided into six parts providing a wide range of information. The course was primarily prepared for middle school students, but we found it very helpful also for all interested community.
The course “Advanced RF Transceivers for 5G base stations based on GaN Technology” is accessible on the self-educational portal for students „eLearn central“ : http://uef.fei.stuba.sk/moodle/course/view.php?id=229
The e-learning course was prepared as communication kit targeted towards middle school students for project 5G_GaN2.
This course is prepared in basic version –– expected time of study is 45 minutes.
2 – COURSE CONTENT
The course “Advanced RF Transceivers for 5G base stations based on GaN Technology” (Figure 2.1) includes 6 lessons.
Each lesson gives an explanation to a selected topic connected with RF Transceivers for 5G base stations and the approach of project consortium to this topic.
Lesson titles are following the list hereafter:
- Project 5G_GaN objectives,
- How to achieve the objectives?,
- What are the demands? (Access/Backhaul integration, Flexible duplex, Multi-antenna transmission),
- Proposed concept,
- What shall be done? (GaN HEMT technology, System in package)
Each section consists of educational materials (texts, figures) arranged in form of slides. Students can easily browse through course using next/previous buttons or navigation panel on left side of the screen (Fig. 2.1). Each page of course is no longer than two regular screens (too long texts discourage students to read them, and this can also suppress main aim of course – to obtain basic information quickly). Educational texts are, if it is possible, written in form of bullet points supported by figures or graphs. Fig. 2.2 shows an example of content page showing proposed concept of 5G_GaN2 project.

3 – CONCLUSION
This course is a first step to support 5G_GaN2 dissemination plan. It introduces the reader to RF transceivers for 5G base stations problematics and the approach proposed by consortium of 5G_GaN2 project for 5G networks solution. Individual chapters advise the answers for questions that students may have to gain balanced knowledge.
